This creates places where fingers or hands can be trapped. This is where the risk of crushing is greatest.

Secondary closing edges: the side edges of the sash. If the crushing and shearing points are up to 2.50 m above the floor or a standing surface, they are within reach and must be secured. Windows whose sashes are entirely higher are considered less hazardous. Whoever assembles actuator and window must carry out a risk assessment in accordance with the Machinery Directive.

Typical protective measures

Hold-to-run control: the window only moves as long as the button is pressed

Low closing force and slow movement in the last stretch before closing

Safety edges or light barriers: stop the sash on contact

Covers on the secondary closing edges

This page gives an overview and does not replace a risk assessment.
