When closing, it retracts the chain. Chain actuators are the most common type for tilt, top-hung and roof windows in ventilation and smoke extraction (SHEV).<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How does a chain actuator work?<\/h2>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An electric motor drives a link chain via a gearbox that can only bend in one direction. This makes it rigid when extending so it can transmit pressure. The housing usually sits on the window frame, and the chain engages the sash via a bracket. A <a href=\"\/en\/dictionary\/end-position-cut-off\/\">Limit switch-off<\/a> stops the actuator in the end positions.<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is a chain drive suitable for?<\/h2>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>tilt and top-hung windows on fa\u00e7ades<\/li><li>top-hung windows and roof windows<\/li><li>rooflights of low to medium weight<\/li><li>natural ventilation and smoke extraction (SHEV)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How much force does a chain actuator have?<\/h2>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Standard chain actuators push with 250 to 1500 N, strong models with up to 2500 N. The required <a href=\"\/en\/dictionary\/thrust\/\">thrust force<\/a> depends on sash weight, installation position and stroke.
