Along with the installation position, it is the most important value for determining the required <a href=\"\/en\/dictionary\/thrust\/\">thrust force<\/a> of a window actuator.<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Rule of thumb for glass weight<\/h2>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Glass weighs about <strong>2.5 kg per square metre and millimetre of glass thickness<\/strong>. Double glazing 4\/16\/4 has 8 mm of glass and therefore weighs about 20 kg\/m\u00b2, triple glazing 4\/12\/4\/12\/4 with 12 mm of glass about 30 kg\/m\u00b2.<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Example<\/h2>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Sash 1.2 m \u00d7 0.8 m = 0.96 m\u00b2<\/li><li>Double glazing: 0.96 m\u00b2 \u00d7 20 kg\/m\u00b2 \u2248 19 kg of glass<\/li><li>plus frame and hardware (roughly 20\u201340 % depending on the profile): about 24\u201327 kg<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tip<\/h2>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is better to calculate a little too heavy than too light. The glass make-up is often stamped on the spacer between the panes.<\/p>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why is the installation position so important?<\/h3>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With a rooflight dome or roof window, the actuator lifts almost the entire weight.
