A qualified electrician does the electrical connection.

What you need

New tubular motor with suitable torque and adapters for the shaft

Screwdriver, cordless drill, pliers, voltage tester

Ladder and a second person to hold the shaft

Tape or clamps to secure the curtain

Find out which motor fits with the Roller shutter motor calculator.

Step by step

Switch off the power. Switch off the circuit breaker and check with a voltage tester that the line is dead.

Lower and secure the shutter. Lower the curtain fully or let it down by hand. Secure the top slat with tape or clamps so that it does not slip into the box.

Open the shutter box. Unscrew the inspection cover. Photograph the installation and wiring before you loosen anything.

Release the curtain from the shaft. Remove the suspension springs or clips on the shaft.

Remove the shaft. Lift the shaft out of the bearing on the opposite side and release the motor head from the bracket. Hold the shaft with two people.

Replace the motor. Pull the old motor out of the shaft. On the new motor, fit the crown and drive adapter to suit the shaft and push the motor in up to the stop.

Install, connect, set the end positions. Refit the shaft, hook in the curtain and have the motor connected by a qualified electrician. Then set the upper and lower end positions, see Limit switch-off.

Typical mistakes

Motor too weak: it runs slowly or stops. Better choose one step stronger.

Adapter forgotten: the motor spins inside the tube.

End positions not set: the curtain is pulled into the box.

Cable kinked or pinched when closing the box.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to replace a roller shutter motor?

With practice, about one to two hours per shutter. Boxes that are hard to access or old, seized shafts can take longer.

Which replacement motor fits?

One that fits your shaft and has at least the torque of the old motor. For the 60 mm octagonal shaft, this is for example the A-OK AM45 from €65 net. For a Somfy motor, read Replacing a Somfy tubular motor.

Does an electrician have to connect the motor?

Yes. Work on 230 V may only be carried out by qualified electricians. Skilled DIYers can do the mechanical part themselves.

Questions about replacing the motor?

Call us: +49 40 50694631, or write to info@ventsystems.de.
