Windows, blinds and roller shutters controlled by 24 V: one control for everything

Dietmar Heiken

Window drives, roller shutter and blind motors, and many gate drives operate on 24 V DC. They turn on and off by reversing the polarity. Therefore, you can use the same control for all these devices. This guide shows how this works and how to sensibly divide an installation.

In brief: Window actuators, blind and roller shutter motors running on 24 V DC move up and down by reversing polarity and can therefore be operated with the same control unit. Depending on current draw, the VS-C24-7A supplies up to 10 actuators. All actuators on one control unit move together, so use a separate control unit for each group.

This is how a 24-V control system works

the VS-C24-7A controller Converts 230 V AC to 24 V DC. A simple press of a button reverses the polarity at the output: the drive starts or stops. The control is operated via the button on the device or with the radio remote control VS-C24-F-1 (433.92 MHz). Wind and rain sensors can be connected.

What you can connect

  • Window actuators: all 24-V drives from Vent Systems, for example Chain drives VS-KA or Linear drives VS-LA.
  • Blinds and shutters: Motors with 24 V DC. For our Sun protection motors We are happy to advise you.
  • Goals: Tor drives with 24 V DC that run via a load. Check the voltage and current consumption of your door opener beforehand.

Groups are formed: one control per function

All drives on a control unit operate together. If you want windows and shutters to operate separately, you need to take a separate control unit for each group, for example:

  • Control 1: all overhead lights in the living room, with rain sensor
  • Control 2: the roller shutters on the same facade
  • Control 3: the awning or the blinds in the conservatory in winter

Because the control unit costs only 60 € net, splitting it into several groups remains affordable. The guides show how to plan the ventilation and sun protection together. Ventilation control for window actuators and 24V blind control.

How many drives per controller?

The control unit provides a maximum of 7 A. Add the current consumption of all drives in a group. The total must remain below 7 A. Depending on the drive, this can be up to 10 devices. The current consumption is listed in the data sheet for the respective drive, which you can find in the download area of the product page.

Frequently asked questions

Can I connect windows and roller shutters to the same control system?

Technically, yes, as long as both operate on 24 V DC and the total power output matches. However, they always drive together. For separate operation, you need to purchase one controller for each.

Does the control work with 230-V motors?

No. The VS-C24-7A is only suitable for drives with 24 V DC. For 230-V drives, a suitable wall switch is sufficient.

Where is the control unit mounted?

In a dry interior room, for example next to the window or in the technical room. The On-board charger VS-AD C24 (8 € net) makes mounting on the wall easier.

Is there a volume discount?

Yes. Season prices for professional businesses and retailers are available upon request.
