In short: Electric window opener for tilt, top-hung and roof windows: chain, spindle and rack-and-pinion actuators compared, selection in 4 steps, prices from €65 net.
An electric window opener opens and closes tilt, top-hung and roof windows via a switch, radio or a control unit. For most windows a chain actuator from €65 net is enough; for heavy sashes and skylight domes a spindle or rack-and-pinion actuator.
Which types are there?
- Chain actuator: slim, mounted on the frame, ideal for tilt and top-hung windows
- Spindle or linear actuator: for skylight domes, roof windows and long strokes, from €110 net
- Rack-and-pinion actuator: for heavy sashes, continuous rooflights and sawtooth roofs, from €105 net
How to choose the right window opener
- Check the opening type: tilt window, top-hung window, roof window or skylight dome
- Define the stroke: how far the window should open, usually 100 to 400 mm
- Calculate the force: sash weight and mounting position determine the required push and pull force
- Choose the voltage: 24 V for control units and sensors, 230 V for direct connection
Operation and control
The simplest option is a ventilation switch from €11.99. With a ventilation control such as the VS-C24-7A from €60 net, several actuators can be operated together and rain or wind sensors can be connected so the window closes automatically when it rains.
For tilt and bottom-hung windows there is a separate overview with suitable drives: Windows Drive.
Frequently asked questions
Can I retrofit an electric window opener?
Yes. Most existing tilt, top-hung and roof windows can be retrofitted without a new window. The 230 V connection must be made by a qualified electrician.
How much does an electric window opener cost?
At Vent Systems a chain actuator costs from €65 net. With a switch, the material for one window is around €77 net; with a control unit and rain sensor accordingly more.
