The GEZE E 212 is an electric linear drive that operates mechanical fanlight openers such as the GEZE OL 90, OL 95 N or OL 320. If it fails, you do not necessarily need the same drive again. It is often easier to open the fanlight directly with a chain drive – without rods and scissor arms.
GEZE E 212: key data
| Feature | GEZE E 212 |
|---|---|
| Voltage | 24 V DC (version E 212 R1: 230 V AC) |
| Force | 1500 N push and pull force |
| Application | Drive for the OL 90, OL 95 N and OL 320 fanlight openers, inward-opening bottom-hung sashes |
| Degree of protection | IP42 |
| Cut-off | Limit switches in both end positions, overload cut-off |
The alternative: chain drive directly on the sash
A chain drive is mounted on the window frame and pushes the bottom-hung sash open directly. The old rods of the fanlight opener are no longer needed. Advantages: less mechanics, less wear, easy installation. More in our guide Electric fanlight opener.
- Standard fanlights: VS-KA chain drive with 250 or 400 N, 24 V or 230 V, stroke 100–450 mm. Bracket set included in the price.
- Wide or heavy sashes: VS-DKA 800 double-chain drive with 800 N.
- Controlling several fanlights together: 24 V drives on a Ventilation control.
Would you like to keep the existing rods?
Then the new drive must match the fanlight opener exactly in mechanical terms (connection, stroke, force). Whether one of our linear or spindle drives fits, we will gladly check using photos of the drive, the type plate and the mounting. Without checking, we cannot guarantee that every E 212 can be replaced this way.
What to look out for
- Opening direction: Chain drives are suitable for inward-opening bottom-hung sashes and top-hung sashes.
- Voltage: Choose the same voltage as before – 24 V on a control unit, 230 V directly on a switch.
- Installation space: The chain drive needs space on the window frame below or above the sash.
Important for SHEV: If the window is part of a tested natural smoke and heat exhaust ventilator (NSHEV), the drive may only be replaced by a type named in the test or declaration of performance of the NSHEV. If in doubt, ask your SHEV specialist or us.

Frequently asked questions
Do I have to install a GEZE E 212 again?
Not necessarily. It is often easier to open the fanlight directly with a chain actuator. The old linkage of the fanlight opener is then no longer needed.
Which chain actuator is suitable for the fanlight?
For normal fanlights, the VS-KA with 250 or 400 N in 24 V or 230 V, stroke 100 to 450 mm. For wide or heavy sashes, the VS-DKA 800 double chain actuator with 800 N.
Can I keep the existing linkage?
Then the new actuator must fit the fanlight opener exactly in mechanical terms, i.e. connection, stroke and force. We check case by case whether one of our actuators fits.
Note: The brand and product names mentioned belong to their respective owners. They are used here only to indicate technical compatibility. Vent Systems is not affiliated with these manufacturers; only Vent Systems’ own actuators are offered.
In brief: If a GEZE E 212 on a fanlight opener fails, the fanlight can often be opened more simply with a chain actuator directly, without linkage. As an alternative, Vent Systems offers the VS-KA with 250 or 400 N in 24 V or 230 V, and the VS-DKA 800 double chain actuator for wide sashes. If the linkage is to remain, we check compatibility case by case.
