Skylight drive: Motors for skylights and roof hatches

Skylights on flat roofs are opened for daily ventilation and often also for smoke and heat extraction. Because the dome and upstand are heavy and the weight acts vertically, the drive mechanism requires significantly more power than on a facade window. Vent Systems supplies skylight drives from stock in Hamburg – also for retrofitting existing domes.

Suitable drives

• VS-LA linear actuator – 600 N to 5,000 N, 100 to 800 mm stroke; the standard for medium to heavy-duty domes.
• VS-SA 2500 spindle drive – 2,500 N, up to 1,000 mm stroke for large, heavy domes and flaps.
• VS-DKA 800 double-chain drive – 800 N on two chains when there is little space for a linear drive.
• VS-ZA 800 rack-and-pinion drive – 800 N, IP65, for long strokes.

Choice tips

• Determine the dome weight including the mounting ring and take snow and wind loads into account.
• Select the stroke according to the desired opening angle – for smoke and heat exhaust ventilation (SHEV), the project planning specifies the required opening.
• For ventilation, a Rain sensor, so that the dome closes automatically when it rains.
• When retrofitting, measure the existing mounting points and the space under the dome.

For use in smoke and heat exhaust ventilation systems, the drive, window, and an approved smoke and heat exhaust ventilation control unit must be coordinated and verified on a project-specific basis.
