SIMON PROtec, formerly SIMON RWA, builds chain actuators mainly for smoke and heat exhaust and for natural ventilation. Common series are PA-K-20, PA-K-50, PA-K-65 and EA-K-30, usually in 24 V. If such an actuator is defective, you will find suitable Vent Systems chain actuators here and the key points for the replacement.
In brief: As an alternative to SIMON chain actuators, Vent Systems offers the VS-KA in 24 V with 250 to 600 N, the smart VS-KA-i with synchronisation and up to 1,400 mm stroke, and the flat VS-CKA 300 for concealed installation. If the actuator is part of a tested smoke vent (NSHEV), the replacement must first be agreed with the window manufacturer or installer.
SIMON chain actuators and alternatives compared
| Model | Manufacturer data | Alternative from Vent Systems |
|---|---|---|
| PA-K-20 | 24 V DC, 200 N push and pull, stroke e.g. 200 mm, IP32. Also available integrated in the profile as PA-KI-20. | VS-KA with 250 N in 24 V, same stroke. For concealed installation: VS-CKA 300 |
| PA-K-50 | 24 V DC, 500 N push and pull, stroke e.g. 300 mm, IP32 | VS-KA with 600 N in 24 V, stroke selectable from 100 to 1,000 mm |
| PA-K-65 | 24 V DC, 650 N push and pull, stroke up to 1,200 mm, IP32, can be synchronised | VS-KA-i with 800 N, stroke up to 1,400 mm, synchronisation function |
| EA-K-30 | 24 V DC, 300 N push and pull, stroke up to 1,200 mm, IP32, tandem-capable | VS-KA-i with 500 N, stroke up to 1,400 mm, for two actuators on one sash |
Important for smoke ventilation: tested device and control panel
Many SIMON actuators are tested as part of a natural smoke and heat exhaust ventilator to DIN EN 12101-2. The test applies to the tested combination of window and actuator. If the actuator in such a device is replaced, first clarify with the window manufacturer, the installer or the expert whether the replacement is permitted. More on this in the guide Smoke ventilation standards at a glance.
Some SIMON actuators can be networked and programmed via the SICO system. Vent Systems actuators do not support these functions. They run conventionally at 24 V via polarity reversal. So check whether your existing control panel drives conventional 24 V actuators. We do not supply smoke control panels.
What to consider when replacing a drive
- Stroke: Choose the same stroke as the old actuator so that the sash does not open further than before. Calculate chain length
- Installation space and brackets: Compare the length and depth of the new actuator with the space on the frame. The old brackets usually do not fit, a bracket set is included in the price of the VS-KA.
- Two actuators on one sash: For tandem or synchronised operation, replace both actuators together, ideally with the VS-KA-i.
- Connection: The actuator must be connected by a qualified electrician.
Photograph the type plate – we will name the right drive

Frequently asked questions
Which actuator replaces a SIMON PA-K-50?
As an alternative from Vent Systems, the VS-KA chain actuator in 24 V with 600 N is suitable. Choose the stroke to match the previous actuator between 100 and 1,000 mm.
Can I operate the replacement on my SIMON control panel?
Only if the control panel drives conventional 24 V actuators via polarity reversal. Our actuators do not support SICO bus functions. In a tested smoke vent, agree the replacement with the window manufacturer or installer beforehand.
Is there a replacement for the profile-integrated PA-KI-20?
For concealed installation, there is the flat VS-CKA 300 chain actuator with 300 N in 24 V. We check whether it fits your profile based on photos and profile dimensions.
Note: The brand and product names mentioned belong to their respective owners. They are used here only to indicate technical compatibility. Vent Systems is not affiliated with these manufacturers and offers only its own Vent Systems actuators. The manufacturer data is taken from publicly available data sheets (as of October 2026) and is for technical comparison only. Please check dimensions and values on the existing actuator before replacing it.
