A window consists of two main parts: the outer frame and the sash.
- Outer frame: the fixed frame installed in the wall or façade. It never moves.
- Sash: the moving part with the glass pane that is opened and closed.
Why this matters for window actuators
A window actuator connects both parts: the actuator usually sits on the outer frame, and the chain or push rod engages the sash. To choose the actuator and Bracket we therefore need dimensions and material of outer frame and sash.
These dimensions help with the selection
- Sash width and sash height
- approximate sash weight
- Profile depth and space between outer frame and sash
- Opening direction and position of the hinges
The easiest way is to enter everything in our measurement sheet .
Practical example: Profile too narrow for the console
With slim aluminum profiles, there is often little space left on the glazing frame. If the standard bracket does not fit, the drive is mounted with a customized bracket or mounting plate. The key is that the mounting is in a durable material: for plastic windows, preferably in the steel reinforcement, for aluminum with rivet nuts instead of just in the thin profile sheet.
Common mistakes
- Wing dimensions stated instead of frame dimensions – or vice versa
- Overhang of the wing not taken into account: The attachment to the wing needs a flat surface
- Mounting only in sealing or cladding instead of in the profile
Tip: Take photos of the frame and wings in both the closed and open positions and send the images with the measurement sheet. This makes it easy to determine the appropriate console.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a visor frame and a wing?
The blind frame is firmly attached to the masonry or facade. The wing is the movable part with the glass that opens.
What measurements do you need for a quote?
Wing width, wing height, approximate wing weight, opening type and available space on the frame. All of this can be adjusted in the measurement sheet Register.
