the Stroke length (stroke for short) is the maximum distance a window actuator extends. It is given in millimetres . With a chain actuator it is the length by which the chain extends; with a linear or spindle actuator it is the travel of the push rod.
Stroke length and opening width
The stroke length determines how far the sash opens. However, the actual opening width also depends on where the actuator sits and how the sash is hinged. Important: the sash must mechanically allow the full stroke length. If a stay or fitting limits the opening earlier, the actuator can be damaged.
Which stroke length do I need?
- Ventilation via tilt windows: 100 to 300 mm is often enough
- RWA: the required opening area is specified by the design; larger strokes are often needed
- Window height: small sashes cannot take a very large stroke
