A Chain actuator is an electric window actuator that pushes a chain out of a flat housing and thereby opens the sash. When closing, it retracts the chain. Chain actuators are the most common type for tilt, top-hung and roof windows in ventilation and smoke extraction (SHEV).
How does a chain actuator work?
An electric motor drives a link chain via a gearbox that can only bend in one direction. This makes it rigid when extending so it can transmit pressure. The housing usually sits on the window frame, and the chain engages the sash via a bracket. A Limit switch-off stops the actuator in the end positions.
What is a chain drive suitable for?
- tilt and top-hung windows on façades
- top-hung windows and roof windows
- rooflights of low to medium weight
- natural ventilation and smoke extraction (SHEV)
How much force does a chain actuator have?
Standard chain actuators push with 250 to 1500 N, strong models with up to 2500 N. The required thrust force depends on sash weight, installation position and stroke. For wide, heavy sashes there are double chain actuators with two chains.
Chain actuators at Vent Systems
Vent Systems supplies chain actuators from stock in Hamburg: VS-KA (250–1500 N, from €65 net), VS-KA-i with synchronisation and bus (from €145), VS-DKA 800 double chain actuator (from €196) and VS-CKA 300 for concealed installation (from €155). All models: Chain actuators. Which type fits is shown in the comparison of chain, linear and rack-and-pinion actuators.
