the End-position cut-off ensures that a window actuator stops by itself as soon as the window has reached its end position: fully open or fully closed. So the button does not have to stay pressed until the sash hits the stop, and the motor does not continue running against resistance.
How does it work?
- In the open position: the actuator switches off when the set Stroke length is reached.
- In the closed position: many actuators detect from the rising current that the sash is resting against the seal, and then switch off. This pulls the sash tight.
- Electronic or mechanical: modern actuators measure electronically, older ones use mechanical limit switches.
Why is this important?
Without a clean end-position cut-off, the motor would press against the stop. This strains the actuator, chain and fittings and shortens their service life. A good end-position cut-off also protects the seal and ensures even, tight closing.
At Vent Systems
Our actuators such as VS-KA, VS LA and VS-ZA 800 have an electronic cut-off; the VS-ZA 800 moves into the end position with a soft end-position cut-off.
Practical example: Window does not close completely
If a gap remains, even though the drive is in the on position, it is rarely due to the end switch itself. Often, the bracket on the wing is not positioned correctly, or the Bracket It is mounted in a staggered position. Then, first check the assembly before replacing the drive.
Common mistakes
- Hub selected longer than the window can open – the drive stops at the fitting instead of in the end position
- After a console or flight change, the final positions were not re-checked
- Final shutdown and Load cut-off confused: One limits the path, the other the power
Tip: After assembly, run it completely up and down once and check whether the wing is resting evenly on the seal all around.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to set the end positions?
It depends on the drive. Many drives recognize the end positions themselves. The specifications for this can be found in the assembly instructions for the respective drive.
How do I know that the final shutdown is not correct?
The window does not open to the desired width, does not close completely, or the drive makes audible noises against a stop.
