Load cut-off (overload cut-off)

the Load cut-off, also called overload cut-off, stops a window actuator when it would have to apply more force than intended. This happens, for example, when an object is in the window, the sash is frozen or jammed.

What is it good for?

  • Protection of the actuator: the motor does not burn out and the chain is not overloaded
  • Protection of window and fittings: no bending or tearing out in the event of blockage
  • Stop at obstacle: the actuator stops instead of continuing to push

Load cut-off and end-position cut-off

Both functions often use the same technology, current measurement. The End-position cut-off stops as planned in the end position. The load cut-off kicks in when something unexpected happens on the way.

Does it replace anti-trap protection?

Not automatically. Whether the force limitation of an actuator is sufficient as protection against trapping depends on installation height and closing force and is evaluated in the risk assessment. More on this: Main and secondary closing edge.

At Vent Systems

Actuators such as VS-KA, VS LA and VS-ZA 800 have electronic overload cut-off and stop automatically at an obstacle.

Practical example: Window jams in winter

If a wing is frozen or bent, the drive requires more power than usual. The load cut-off detects overload and stops the motor before drive, Bracket or damage the windows.

Last shutdown is not personal protection

The load disconnect protects the technology. It does not replace protective devices. closing edges. Where windows are located at a height that is accessible, additional measures are necessary, such as sensor strips or a control that requires the button to be pressed down.

Common mistakes

  • Drive with too little torque Thrust selected – the load shutdown then triggers in normal operation
  • Difficult-to-use fittings not maintained
  • Hub larger than the possible Opening width – the drive then stops at the stop every time

Frequently asked questions

What happens after a load shutdown?

The drive remains stationary. With the next command to drive it will start again. If the shutdown occurs frequently, have the fitting, console, and thrust force checked.

Do all drives from Vent Systems have load reduction?

Whether and how a drive switches off is specified in the data sheet on the respective product page under Downloads.
