The Obstacle detection is a function of electronic tubular motors. The motor measures the load while running. If it rises suddenly because the roller shutter hits an obstacle or freezes, the motor stops and reverses a little.
What does obstacle detection protect against?
- Objects on the window sill, for example flower pots
- Damage to the curtain and the guide rails
- Overloading of the motor when the roller shutter is frozen (frost protection)
Which motors have obstacle detection?
Usually electronic radio motors, for example the A-OK AM45 radio tubular motor. Mechanical motors with limit adjustment screws usually have no obstacle detection.
Does obstacle detection replace anti-trap protection?
No. It reacts to a clearly increased load and is not personal protection. Separate safety requirements apply to windows and doors where people can be trapped – comparable to the Load cut-off on window actuators.
