The Tilt-and-turn window is the most common window in German homes: it can be opened to the side (turn) and tilted at the top (tilt). For automation, usually only the tilt position makes sense.
What works – and what does not
- Tilting: an actuator can move the sash into the tilt position
- Turning: automatic sideways opening is not intended with standard window actuators
- Hardware: the handle must be in the tilt position or the hardware is prepared for the actuator – depending on the system
Typical solution
For tilt-and-turn windows there are actuators that sit at the top of the sash and only tilt. Whether your window is suitable depends on hardware and profile. Send us a photo and we will check.
Frequently asked questions
Can I automate a tilt-and-turn window in an old building?
Often yes, if the window only needs to be tilted. More in the guide on old buildings.
Can the window still be operated by hand?
That depends on the solution. With many chain actuators, the actuator must be disconnected before turning the sash.
