A Transom window is a window in the upper part of a wall, usually above a door or a larger window. It is often bottom-hung and tilts inwards. Because it sits high up, it is hard to reach by hand – a typical case for an electric actuator.
How is a transom window opened?
- Mechanically, with a crank or rod (transom opener)
- Electrically, with a flat chain actuator on the sash
- For wide transom windows with two synchronised actuators
Which actuator fits?
For most transom windows, a VS-KA chain actuator with 250 N. Wider than about 1.2 m: two VS-KA-i in sync, or the VS-DKA 800. More on this under Skylight Drive and Electric fanlight opener.
