A Dome rooflight is a rooflight in the flat roof. It consists of an upstand and a domed cover made of acrylic glass or polycarbonate. Rooflights bring daylight into halls, corridors and stairwells and can be opened for ventilation.
How is a rooflight opened?
The dome is hinged on one side and pushed upwards by an actuator. Because the dome lies horizontally, the actuator has to lift its full weight and, with snow, the snow load as well. Linear and spindle actuators are particularly suitable for this.
Which actuator fits?
- VS-LA linear actuator for light to medium rooflights
- VS-SA 2500 spindle drive for large and heavy domes
- VS-LA-i, when two actuators should run synchronously

What to look out for
- Include the weight of the dome and the snow load in the force
- Plan a rain sensor so that the dome closes when it rains
- For smoke extraction: only tested devices and a specialist company, see NRWG
