A venetian blind motor raises, lowers and tilts the slats electrically to control light and sun precisely. It sits in the head rail and drives the shafts on both sides via a double shaft. Vent Systems supplies A-OK blind motors for external venetian blinds and interior blinds – for retrofit and new builds, e.g. in office and commercial buildings.
In brief: Unlike a roller shutter motor, the venetian blind motor is not slid into a shaft but mounted in the head rail. To choose, we need the head rail manufacturer and type, the blind size and the desired control.

All AM55 motors have a double shaft, electronic limits, overload protection and IP54 protection and can be mounted facing up or down. A-OK's selection table determines 6 or 10 Nm by blind height and width, based on 1.5 kg/m² slat weight and 0.8 kg/m bottom rail. - Head rail manufacturer and type, with a photo if possible
- For replacements: photo of the old motor's type plate
- Number of blinds and desired control (switch, radio, sensors)
Safety and connection
Venetian blind motors usually run on 230 V; the connection must be made by a qualified electrician. External venetian blinds are sensitive to wind: a wind sensor raises the blinds in strong wind and protects the slats.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between external venetian blinds and interior blinds?
“Raffstore” usually means the external blind with sturdy aluminium slats and guide rails or cables. “Jalousie” is often used for interior blinds. Both can be motorised; the motors differ in design and power.
Can I motorise a crank-operated venetian blind?
Usually yes. The motor replaces the crank gear in the head rail. Whether conversion is possible depends on the head rail system – send us a photo.
Can I replace a defective branded motor?
Yes, as an alternative to motors from established manufacturers such as Somfy, Becker, Elero or Selve – provided design and shaft coupling match the head rail. Radio systems from different manufacturers are not compatible with each other.
How much does an external venetian blind motor cost?
With us, an external venetian blind motor costs from €97 net (€115 incl. VAT) with cable control, with radio from €150 net. The price depends mainly on torque (6, 10 or 20 Nm) and control.
